Common issues
Black screen after joining
- Check that the resource started without red errors.
- Check that no other character select is running.
- Check that the folder is named exactly
sc_multicharacter. - Check that
web/dist/is complete. Download the package again if needed. - Check F8 for
nui://sc_multicharactererrors.
ESX Multichar is disabled
Set Config.Multichar = true in es_extended/shared/config/main.lua and restart the server. See Framework Setup.
ESX or ox_core already has an active character
Another resource already selected a character for the player. Disable every other character select resource and reconnect.
... is running alongside sc_multicharacter
The console names the resource that duplicates character select or identity. Stop it and remove its ensure line from server.cfg.
Wrong framework detected
Set the framework in config/core.lua, for example Config.Framework = 'esx'. Make sure sc_multicharacter starts after the framework.
You lack the required entitlement
sv_licenseKey comes from another account than the one that bought the resource. See Installation.
Default appearance or another character's face
- Start your clothing resource before
sc_multicharacter. - Set
Config.Appearanceto a specific key instead of'auto'. - If your resource is not listed, add an adapter. See Integrations.
- With
Config.Debug = true, adapter errors show in F8.
The appearance editor does not open on creation
Not every clothing resource has a supported editor, for example qb_clothing and um_clothing. Check the table in Integrations or add editor to your adapter.
Players do not get starting items
- Check that the inventory is running and detected (
Config.Inventory,Config.StartingItems.grant). - Item names in
itemmust exist in your inventory. - Grant your own items in
GiveStartingItems, not inOnCharacterCreated. - Vehicles never go to the inventory. Handle them in
OnStartingItemsGranted.
No spawn location photos
- Start screenshot-basic before
sc_multicharacter. - Set
Config.SpawnSelector.photos = true. - Remove the
imagefield from locations, because it takes priority over automatic photos. - Take every photo with
/scspawnshots.
Discord role slots or the staff list do not work
- Bot token and server id are in
config/discord-secrets.lua. - Server Members Intent is enabled for the bot.
- The bot is on your Discord server.
Config.Discord.checkRoles = true.- The player has Discord running while playing.
An admin command does nothing
- Check ACE and
Config.AdminGroups. See Commands and Permissions. - Server commands also need
command.<name>oradd_ace group.admin command allow. - Try the same command from the server console without
/.
Unknown column in the console
Set Config.AutoFixDatabase = true and restart, or run scfixdb from the console. With auto repair off, the console prints the SQL to run.
The loading screen does not show my content
web/dist/loadingscreen.jsonhas a syntax error. Check it in a JSON validator.- Run
refreshandrestart sc_multicharacterafter a change. - Image and music paths are relative to
web/dist/, for exampleloadingbg/1.jpg.
The logo does not change
- The path in
theme.luastarts withlogo/and is relative toweb/dist/. - The file name matches, including letter case.
- A missing file silently falls back to the SleepyCode logo.
No menu music
web/dist/audio/menu-theme.mp3exists.- The player enabled music in the settings (gear icon).
- Music starts only after the first click in the UI.
A player is kicked during character select
They sent too many rejected requests in a short time, usually a cheat or macro.
If it is a false positive, set Config.Security.violations.kick = false and report it with logs from Config.Debug = true.
FAQ
Can I change how the UI looks?
Yes. Colors, radius, font, logo, opacity, and animations are in config/theme.lua, and every text is in locale/*.json. Screen layout is part of the build and cannot be edited.
Do I get the UI source code?
No. The UI ships as a ready build in web/dist/. Common changes are covered by the config. See Theme and Branding.
Will my existing esx_multicharacter characters stay?
Yes. On ESX, the resource uses the same char<N>:<license> format in users, so existing characters show up right away. QBCore and Qbox use players, ox_core uses characters.
Do I need to import SQL?
No. With Config.AutoFixDatabase = true, the resource creates the tables and columns it needs.
Can I rename the folder?
No. The folder must be named sc_multicharacter.
How do I give a player an extra slot?
Use setslots <id> <count>, Config.SlotOverrides, or Discord roles in Config.SlotsByDiscordRole. See Characters and Slots.
Does it work without Discord?
Yes. Discord is only needed for role slots, the staff list, and the player name with avatar.
Is the airplane intro required?
No. Set Config.AirplaneIntro.enabled = false in config/arrival.lua, or limit it to the first character with onlyFirstCharacter = true.
How do I pause my anticheat while the character loads?
Use OnStateChanged and the busy field in bridge/client/editable.lua. See Examples. From another resource, use the IsBusy() export.
Does it put load on the server?
Not noticeably. Characters save every 5 minutes and on disconnect. Heavy parts such as the camera and UI only run during character select.
