How to Clear FiveM Cache on Your PC (Fix Crashes and Missing Textures)
Clearing your FiveM cache fixes crashes on join, missing textures and endless loading. Which folders to delete, which one to keep, and what to try next.
FiveM keeps a local copy of every server's files on your PC so you do not have to download them again. When that copy gets damaged or outdated you crash when joining, see invisible cars and buildings, or get stuck on the loading screen. Clearing the cache fixes most of it and takes a minute.
1. Close FiveM completely
Close the game, then check the system tray (the little arrow by the clock) and close FiveM there too. Files that are in use cannot be deleted.
2. Open the FiveM data folder
Press Win + R, paste this and press Enter:
%localappdata%\FiveM\FiveM.app\dataIf you installed FiveM somewhere else, right-click the FiveM shortcut, choose Open file location, and open FiveM.app\data from there.
3. Delete these folders
| Folder | Delete? | What it holds |
|---|---|---|
cache | Yes | Downloaded files from servers |
server-cache | Yes | Streamed server assets |
server-cache-priv | Yes | Private server assets |
nui-storage | Optional | Saved settings of in-game menus (deleting resets them) |
game-storage | No | Your GTA V game files; deleting forces a large redownload |
4. Start FiveM and join again
The first join takes longer while the server's files download again. That is normal.
Still crashing?
- Look at the crash name. FiveM shows a code such as
ERR_GFX_D3D_INITor a funny name like "lemon-mississippi-three". Search for that exact name, because each one points to a different cause. - Verify GTA V files in Steam, Epic or Rockstar Launcher.
- Turn off overlays (Discord, MSI Afterburner, GeForce Experience) one at a time.
- Ask the server's staff. If many players crash on the same spot, the server has a broken map or vehicle, and the owner needs to clear the server cache or remove that resource.
Running your own server?
If you own a server and your players keep sending you this guide, it is worth checking which resources are the heaviest. Our guide on using resmon to find heavy scripts shows how.
